eSIM on de-Googled Android: LineageOS, /e/OS, iodeOS & CalyxOS

- You have an eSIM-capable phone running LineageOS, /e/OS, iodeOS, or CalyxOS
- The phone is carrier-unlocked
- You have your PikaSim invoice or /youresimdata page open, which is where your ICCID and APN come from
- You have a Wi-Fi connection for the initial install

The Honest Answer: It Depends on Your Build, Not on Us
An eSIM is not an app. When you install a profile, the phone's modem talks directly to the network and writes the profile to a small secure chip called the eUICC. Google is not in that path. That means a de-Googled OS does not block eSIM by removing Google, and the PikaSim side works the same no matter which Android you run.
The one thing that decides whether you can use an eSIM at all is whether your OS build exposes the eSIM installer screen (technically, the LPA, or Local Profile Assistant). Some de-Googled builds include it and some do not. This is a per-device, per-OS-version question, so the honest answer is "yes, if your build has the screen." Here is how each system stands.
Check this in 10 seconds
Open Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs. If you see Download a SIM instead, an Add eSIM button, or a + next to your SIMs, your build supports eSIM and you are good to go. If there is no such option anywhere, your build does not expose the installer, and no app or setting will add one.
Compatibility by Operating System
CalyxOS (Pixel)
CalyxOS runs on Google Pixel hardware, and Pixels from the Pixel 3 onward have eSIM in the modem. eSIM works on CalyxOS the same way it does on GrapheneOS: install through the built-in SIM manager, no Google account needed. Expect to enter the APN by hand, as with any de-Googled build.
Verdict: works on supported Pixels. Manual APN required.
/e/OS (Murena)
/e/OS supports eSIM on devices whose build ships the installer, which includes Pixels and select Murena-sold hardware such as the Gigaset GS6 and GS6 Pro. Where the eSIM screen is present, PikaSim installs and runs normally. Coverage is device-specific, so confirm the screen exists on your exact model before you buy a plan.
Verdict: works where the device build exposes eSIM. Check your model.
iodeOS
iodeOS is built on LineageOS, so it inherits the same rule: eSIM works on builds that expose the installer and is absent where the underlying LineageOS build never shipped it. On supported devices (Pixels and other eSIM-capable models with the screen present) PikaSim works fine. On builds without the screen, there is no eSIM path.
Verdict: device-dependent, same as its LineageOS base.
LineageOS
This is the one to check carefully. LineageOS has historically not included the eSIM installer on many device builds, even where the hardware supports eSIM. Support is improving and some builds now expose the screen, but it is far from universal. If your LineageOS phone has no "Add eSIM" option, the build simply does not ship it, and that is an OS limitation nobody can toggle around. Pixels tend to fare best.
Verdict: works only where the build exposes eSIM. Many builds do not. Check first.
Installing Your PikaSim eSIM
Once you have confirmed the eSIM screen exists, installing is the same across all four systems. After paying, PikaSim shows an invoice page with your eSIM details. Install in whichever way is easiest:
One-Click Install Link (easiest)
From the phone itself, open your PikaSim invoice page and tap the one-click install button. The built-in eSIM installer opens with your activation code already filled in. Confirm, and the profile downloads over Wi-Fi.
This uses the standard Android LPA: link. No special handler or Google app is involved.
QR Code Scan
If the invoice is on another screen (laptop or tablet), scan the QR from the phone:
- Open Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs
- Tap Download a SIM instead (or + if you already have SIMs)
- Tap Next, then scan the QR code on your PikaSim invoice
- Confirm the prompt to download the profile
Manual Activation Code
If the QR cannot be scanned, enter the code by hand:
- Open Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs > Download a SIM instead
- Look for Need help? then Enter it manually (wording varies slightly by OS)
- Paste the full activation code from your invoice (it starts with
LPA:1$...) - Confirm and let the profile download
When the profile finishes, name the eSIM something you will recognise ("PikaSim" works), enable the line, and continue.
The APN: The One Step Almost Everyone Misses
What is an APN and where do I find mine?
APN stands for Access Point Name. It tells your phone which gateway to use to reach the data network. Every PikaSim plan has its own APN assigned by the underlying network. Plans that look identical (same country, same data amount) can have different APNs depending on which partner network serves your SIM.
Your specific APN is printed on the PikaSim invoice page (and on /youresimdata after a card purchase) in a copyable field labelled "APN". Copy that exact value. Do not guess, do not reuse an APN from another eSIM or guide, and do not trust a "common APNs" list. Each plan has its own.
How to enter the APN
Menu wording differs slightly between LineageOS, /e/OS, iodeOS, and CalyxOS, but the path is nearly identical on all of them:
- Open Settings
- Tap Network and Internet > SIMs
- Tap your PikaSim eSIM line
- Tap Access Point Names (scroll down if needed)
- Tap the + button or open the three-dot menu and choose New APN
- Fill in only two fields:
- Name: anything you will recognise, e.g.
PikaSim - APN: the exact value from your invoice page (lowercase, no extra spaces)
- Name: anything you will recognise, e.g.
- Leave everything else blank: username, password, server, proxy, port, MMSC, MCC, MNC. Do not invent values.
- Open the three-dot menu again and tap Save
- Back on the APN list, tap the radio button next to the entry you just created so it is selected
- Restart the phone
Still No Signal? Work Through This
If the eSIM is installed and the APN is set but you have no data, run these in order. Each fixes a different failure mode, so do not skip around.
Confirm Data Roaming is ON for the eSIM line
Travel eSIMs connect via local partner networks, which the OS sees as roaming. If Data Roaming is off for the eSIM line, the phone refuses to register.
Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs > tap the PikaSim eSIM > Roaming: ON. This affects only the line you turn it on for.
Make sure mobile data is set to the eSIM line
If a physical SIM is still the mobile-data line, none of your data flows through the PikaSim eSIM.
Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs > tap PikaSim eSIM > Mobile data: ON. When prompted which SIM carries data, pick the PikaSim line.
Prefer LTE / 4G over 5G
Some travel eSIMs return Forbidden on 5G in certain countries. Force the line to LTE until you confirm 5G works.
Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs > tap PikaSim eSIM > Preferred network type > LTE. Switch back to 5G once you have a stable connection.
Try manual network selection
If automatic selection cannot find a partner, pick a carrier manually:
- Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs > tap the eSIM
- Turn OFF Automatically select network
- Wait for the network list (can take 30 to 60 seconds)
- Tap a carrier, wait 30 to 60 seconds before judging it
- If it does not work, try the next one in the list
Full power cycle
Not airplane mode, a full shutdown. The OS reloads the cellular modem from scratch on boot, which is the cleanest way to force it to re-read the new APN and re-authenticate with a local network.
Hold power, tap Power off, wait 30 seconds, power back on, and give it 1 to 2 minutes to find the network.
Why a de-Googled Phone + PikaSim Fit Together
