Warrant Canary

A transparency statement about government data requests

Last updated: February 11, 2026

What is a Warrant Canary?

A warrant canary is a method used by service providers to inform users about government data requests while complying with legal restrictions. Certain government orders (like National Security Letters in the US) come with gag orders that prohibit companies from disclosing that they've received such requests.

The concept is simple: we publish a statement saying we have NOT received certain types of requests. If this statement ever disappears or stops being updated, users can infer that something may have changed.

The name comes from "canary in a coal mine" - miners used canaries to detect dangerous gases. If the canary died, miners knew to evacuate. Similarly, if our canary statement disappears, it may signal a change in our legal situation.

Why This Matters

At PikaSim, we believe in transparency. While we already collect minimal user data (no accounts, no email collection, crypto payment option), we want to go further by being transparent about government requests.

Many eSIM and telecom providers receive government requests and may not be able to tell you about them. Our warrant canary is our commitment to keeping you informed within the bounds of the law.

What Data We Even Have

It's worth noting that even if we received a government request, we have very limited data to provide:

  • No user accounts - We don't require registration
  • No email addresses - We don't collect or store emails
  • No browsing history - We use privacy-focused Plausible analytics with no personal tracking
  • No IP logs - We don't log user IP addresses
  • Crypto payments available - For users who pay with Bitcoin, we have no payment identity information

Our Privacy Policy details our data practices in full.
